Eastern Kentucky University, commonly referred to as Eastern or EKU, is an undergrad and graduate teaching and research school located in beautiful Richmond, Kentucky.

History of Eastern Kentucky University:
Eastern Kentucky Normal School was established on March 21, 1906. The Normal School Commission selected the campus site of Central University in Richmond, Kentucky as the site of the newly founded school on May 7. Ruric Nevel Roark was chosen as President on June 3, and the school began training instructors.
The school became a four-year college known as the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School and Teachers College.
Eastern awarded its first degrees.
Eastern was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
The school was renamed Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College.
Eastern’s graduate program was approved and the Master of Arts degree in Education was first offered. The school was also granted the right to award nonprofessional degrees. The school became known as Eastern Kentucky State College.
February 26, 1966 - Present
The school was renamed Eastern Kentucky University and granted the right to award graduate degrees other than education.
EKU rapidly grew and now offers associates, bachelor’s degrees, ever-expanding master’s and online degree programs, as well as doctorate degrees with cooperating schools.
Eastern is regularly ranked among top online schools and has been nationally recognized as the best school for veterans.

In 2010, Eastern Kentucky University implemented a series of initiatives geared towards veterans’ academic success. These initiatives, collectively known as Operation Veteran Success, provide benefits for veterans including:
Priority registration and in-state tuition for out of state vets.

Maximum credit hours applied for veterans’ military experience.
